  • Use basic greetings and everyday expressions confidently.
  • Introduce themselves and talk about simple personal information.
  • Understand and respond to common phrases used at home
  • Vocabulary
  • Recognize and use 100–150 essential words (family, food, daily routines).
  • Use simple verbs in the present tense. Reading (Fidel)
  • Recognize the main Fidel letters and read simple words.
  • Match familiar spoken words with their written forms.
  • Communication Skills
  • Participate in short, guided conversations. Ask and answer basic questions (e.g., name, feelings, needs, objects).
  • Cultural Understanding
  • Understand simple cultural expressions and respectful forms of speaking.

  • Understand a few basic words from home, but not required.
  • Be able to recognize some familiar sounds in spoken Tigrinya (optional).
  • Have motivation to learn communication for family, culture, or identity.
  • Be willing to practice short phrases daily.
  • Have access to basic learning tools: notebook, pen, and audio practice (phone laptop , tablet . . .)
  • No reading or writing skills are required.
  • No grammar background is required.
  • The course starts completely from the beginning.

Level One is designed for Tigrinya beginners and heritage learners who grew up outside Eritrea. This level focuses on essential communication skills such as greetings, simple conversations, and basic everyday vocabulary. Students are introduced to the Fidel alphabet and learn to recognize and read simple words. The course builds confidence through audio, visuals, and practical speaking activities
